Abstract

Puput Apriani. 2020. An Analysis Of Students’ Listening Strategies Toward Their Listening Comprehension at SMAN 3 Palopo (supervised by Sri Damayanti and Tsamratul’Aeni) This research aims to find out the listening comprehension strategies used by eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Palopo. The subjects of this research are all students of XII IPA 1 of SMAN 2 Palopo in academic year 2020/2021. This research was using descriptive quantitative as the methodology and the data was collected by using questionnaire as the instrument. The questionnaire consisted of 30 items which represent the use of listening strategies from memory, cognitive, compensation, meta-cognitive, affective and social strategies. This research uses Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to analyze the data. The result of data analysis shows that students used six types of listening strategies in order to enhance their listening comprehension, namely memory strategy, cognitive strategy, compensation strategy, meta-cognitive strategy, social strategy and affective strategy in high intensity. Cognitive strategy (M = 2.6) and meta- cognitive strategy (M = 2.5) are the most used listening strategies by the students. Then it is followed by affective strategy (M = 2.5), compensation strategy (M = 2.5), memory strategy (M = 2.4) and last was social strategy (M = 2.3) as the least used strategies.
